Position: PT Project Coordinator

The Program Coordinator position includes but not limited to the following: providing assistance with outreach and educational functions; assisting with recruitment and stewardship of new and existing members; preparing and managing membership recruitment and renewing calendar; and updating the organizations website.

Exhibition: The Definition of Self in Society
Exhibition Dates: September 8 to October 16, 2005

This exhibition is open to all visual artists in the US and abroad working in all media. Artists are encouraged to think broadly in responding to the theme.

The Target Gallery, the national exhibition space of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, is run by the Torpedo Factory Artists Association. Artists on the Target Gallery Committee are responsible for the planning of exhibitions and overall mission of the gallery. The Target Gallery promotes high standards of art by continuously exploring new ideas through the visual media in a schedule of national and international exhibitions. The gallery hosts nine exhibits annually--some juried, some curated-- featuring a variety of themes and artists. In an effort to keep their perspective challenged, their exhibits are usually composed of artists outside of the Torpedo Factory and represent artistic views from across the nation.

Facilitating Leadership in Youth's (FLY) Benefit

When else can you enjoy great drink specials, bumpin' music and dessert while raising money to send DC's youth to summer camp? Join us for a Happy Hour to benefit Facilitating Leadership in Youth's 6th Annual Summer Camp. FLY Camp provides six weeks of safe, structured, and diverse learning and leadership activities, free of cost, for 40 youth from Southeast DC. The suggested minimum donation is $10

Youth leaders from American University and Anacostia collaborate in the planning, design and implementation of a six week summer learning experience on American University's campus. The goals of the camp are:

- Provide six weeks of safe, structured, and diverse learning and leadership activities, free of cost, for 40 youth from Barry Farm/ Parchester
- Engage youth in building critical thinking, literacy, athletic and artistic skills through interactive learning experiences that combine their academic energies, creativity and personal interests
- Provide employment and leadership opportunities to DC area high school age youth through Counselor-in- Training (CIT) positions
- Involve the Community Advisory Board in the planning and evaluation of FLY's activities. The CAB also encourages parental participation in the summer camp

The summer curriculum consists of: Photography, Urban Ecology, Drama, Technology Works, Small Business Ventures, Comic Book Creations, Daily Paper, Culture Shock, Hip Hop Dance, Basketball, Poetry, Tae Kwon Do, Painting and Drawing, and Swimming.

Volunteers Needed - PG's Neighborhood Design Center






Neighborhood Design Center (NDC) is looking for volunteers who enjoy working closely with community members. This will be challenging, but a very rewarding project. Funding is in place to make the improvements.

Volunteers needed are:

  1. Architect or Planner to work on a concept plan for a new mixed-use development for the Town of Colmar Manor
  2. Landscape Architect to provide landscaping plans for a new playground in Fairmount Heights
  3. Architect to provide facade improvement recommendations for older townhouse development in Kentlands/Landover

NDC mobilizes volunteer professionals in support of community-sponsored initiatives to improve local neighborhood livability and viability. NDC teams from the design, planning, construction and development professions provide technical assistance to:

- Strengthen community participation in neighborhood development initiatives
- Educate the public about the value of good design, planning and preservation as community revitalization tools
- Increase investment in the sensitive rebuilding of neighborhoods. NDC empowers the work of neighborhood organizations' with limited resources by providing access to a continuum of technical services, including predevelopment guidance, conceptual design and community planning
