Event: Youth Grant Award
When: Deadline January 13, 2006 Where: Online Below Youth Service America and Disney are offering the Disney Minnie Grants for youth across the globe. These grants of $500 are for youth (ages 5-14), or the teachers, schools, and organizations that engage them to implement service projects on National and Global Youth Service Day, April 21-23, 2006. Youth Venture is a movement of young people who are changing their communities through youth social entrepreneurship. Youth Venture is based on a belief in the ability of young people to see societal problems, conceive of sustainable new ventures to address them, and lead their implementation. Their mission is to help every young person nationwide find the courage and knowledge to make a difference with his or her life, and to change the way in which society views young people by proving that when given the opportunity, young people have the creativity, resourcefulness, and competency to bring about powerful change in their communities. Their goal is to reach every young person in the nation and provide them with the Youth Venture opportunity. |

Gray is convening a hearing on "Innovations in Youth Development Policy, Practice and Programming" at which we will (1) hear perspectives from other municipal jurisdictions on the successes and challenges of implementing youth development and youth violence reduction strategies, (2) hear about innovative programs that have been implemented to engage youth in positive activities and (3) to hear an update on the ongoing revisions to the Mayor's draft plan entitled: "Effective Youth Development: A Strategy to Ensure District Youth Grow Up Problem-Free, Fully Prepared and Fully Engaged" ("Youth Development Plan"). |
