Over the past few decades, deindustrialization,
suburbanization, and disinvestment have combined to
undermine the economic health of many cities.
Increasingly, community groups are finding partners
in local colleges and universities to turn these
problems around. In this article, Kenneth Reardon of
Cornell University, who has been a participant in such
partnerships for the past 15 years, highlights ten
exemplary efforts.

Event: Paid Tutor
Where: Acelin Learning Solution When: Starts January 2006 This company has openings for literacy tutors, and they want to fill them fast. They are looking for people with experience with children in some type of teaching, tutoring, or mentoring capacity. If a candidate doesn't have this kind of experience but really feels he or she would make a good tutor, they should apply anyway. They will train all new tutors in the program (paid) and it's good pay--$15-18 per hour. Work hours are generally between 3-5:30pm, Mon-Thurs. Acelin Learning Solutions was founded upon the belief that, with proper guidance, students can increase their learning potential. The goal is simple: aim to break the cycle of artificial limitations, and give students the opportunity to be more than just blocks in someone else?s pyramid of success. By developing students as forward thinkers, give them the skills to consistently achieve. They become the engineers of the future, rather than just its laborers.
