Join at the exciting benefit film preview on September, 11th at the Avalon Theater. Tickets will go on sale at the Avalon box office on Friday, August 19th and will be available through the night of the showing. Please come early or stay late and enjoy ice cream and great conversation at the LAYC Ben & Jerry's next door. Please send this along to other film and ice cream fans who may be interested. Just as a note - the film is in Spanish with English subtitles.

The Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) is a multicultural community-based organization that supports youth and their families in their determination to live, work, and study with dignity, hope, and joy.

Representatives of the DC Employment Justice Center will provide classes which provide techniques for dealing with a criminal record job applications and interviews.

The mission of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia is to provide and promote quality legal representation to indigent adults and children facing a loss of liberty in the District of Columbia and thereby protect society?s interest in the fair administration of justice.

MENTORS are being recruited for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Region. Those mentors recruited will be mentoring children of incarcerated parents.

Their mission is to recruit 300 mentors who are willing to commit to at least 1 year of service to change the life of a child.

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTER AMACHI MENTORING PROGRAM

Mentor Requirements:

A menotr must be at least 21 years of age, have lived in the area for 8 months and attend an initial 1- 2 hour training session held at a BBBS site in either MD or DC. Both sites are convenient to public transportation. Quarterly trainings are offered for mentors on various topics. An initial meeting with the mentee and the care giver is encouraged.
