Rightsizing DC Public Schools
When: May 24, 2006 from 12pm - 2pm
Where: Busboys and Poets
2021 14th Street NW (Corner of V Street)

Featured speakers: Darlene Allen and Marc Borbely

DC's schools are a hot topic these days. After the city found hundreds of millions of dollars to build a baseball stadium, residents rose up to ask why the city always has said it can't afford to fix up its schools... and they won a major budget victory. However, there is too much space, with too few children, in the public schools. As a result, the DC Board of Education has proposed reducing operating space by consolidating and closing schools, or by sharing space with other entities. Please join us for a discussion led by Iris Toyer and Marc Borbely about the school district's plans for "rightsizing" its schools, and about the newly passed legislation to fund school modernizations.

Busboys and Poets is a new and exciting restaurant just off the U Street corridor in Washington, DC. The Green Institute is thrilled to be sponsoring this lunch presentation on an issue of such local interest. The presentation will be held in the Langston Room where you will have the opportunity to buy an excellent lunch, or just show up and participate. Attendance is free to all, though voluntary donations to pay for expenses would be welcomed.
