Affordable Housing Alliance
Event: Mayoral Candidates' Forum

This is the premier affordable housing forum occurring this election season, and an important event for the Affordable Housing Alliance. They expect to have all of the candidates, as well as a number of press outlets present. Please turn out to help make this forum a success, and so that you have an opportunity to hear the candidates' views. A portion of the forum will be devoted to questions from the public submitted on index cards at the event. Please note that there will be Spanish translation for the entire event.

Summer Time & Reading Together (START)

START (Summer Time And Reading Together) is seeking for undergraduate (preferably in their junior or senior year) & graduate students in 4 areas, Grant Writing, Web Page Designer, Marketing/Public Relations, and Program Coordinator. All positions are open until filled. All internship positions requires at least 10-20hrs during the week on any day. The time and days are open for flexibility: this is ideal for students taking summer classes who want a flexible schedule.

START is a service organization that helps neighborhoods establish their own children summer reading program so children can learn over the summer in a fun and educational atmosphere. The program emphasizes uniqueness and creativity among each neighborhood book club and START's personnel in designing and customizing their own summer reading program.

The Journal of Health Disparities Research & Practice
Event: Call for Papers

The Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice is an on-line journal that explores the problems and challenges of health disparities among the diverse populations of the United States. JHDRP presents research that will guide the development of evidence based solutions, policy and programs in an effort to reduce and ultimately eliminate health disparities. The Journal is currently soliciting original papers for the inaugural edition.

Submissions may include: Original papers on health disparities research, practice, policy, or evaluation; graduate student papers; and brief communications - Book reviews, letters, information regarding conferences, seminars, funding opportunities, etc.

The Washington Area Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages is a non-profit professional association for ESL/EFL teachers and volunteers in Washington D.C., Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.

Wellesley Institute

Event: Four Grant Opportunities (up to $80k each)

The Wellesley Institute is looking for research that focuses on community level interventions and/or approaches for addressing these issues. Priority is given to research projects that meaningfully involve community members in all aspects of the research process, are policy-relevant and are methodologically rigorous.

They encourage applications that are submitted in partnerships between community agencies, policy makers and academics. They ask that grantees be willing to engage in constructive conversations with policy advisors at the municipal, provincial and/or federal levels.
