Special Exhibit in the Art & Media House Gallery: The LAYC Art & Media House helps youth to develop essential technical and creative abilities through training in photography, radio, video, creative writing, and fine art. Art & Media House programs encourage youth to experience the power of their art not only as a means of self-expression but also as a tool for exploring and understanding critical social and political issues facing the community. The Latin American Youth Center is a multicultural community based organization that supports youth and their families in their determination to live, work and study with dignity, hope and joy. The LAYC achieves its mission by providing comprehensive and culturally sensitive social supports, opportunities in education and employment and through advocacy and social enterprise. Ensuring Equity, Continuing Access, and Advancing Social Justice
EVENT: Georgetown University Symposium on "Remembering Brown vs. Board of Education: Ensuring Equity, Continuing Access, and Advancing Social Justice" WHEN: Thursday, September 23, 2004 9:00-5:00 PM RSVP: Link below Georgetown University, deeply rooted in the Jesuit ideal of service to all in pursuit of justice, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision. This historic decision of the Supreme Court of the United States has continued significance for our country and singular importance for Georgetown as it strives to be an accessible and supportive institution to students regardless of their race, religion, gender, or socioeconomic status. The theme for the symposium is "Remembering Brown v. Board of Education: Ensuring Equity, Continuing Access, and Advancing Social Justice." This theme reflects Georgetown University's long-term mission of service to community and nation. The symposium will educate the University community and its guests about the continued importance of equity, access, and social justice in education. The symposium, through its invited, faculty, and student speakers and panelists, the involvement of the D.C. The Community Research and Learning (CoRAL) Network seeks a research assistant for Fall 2004 and Spring 2005 to manage and analyze pre- and post-test questionnaire data administered to college students from eight area institutions.
Knowledge of SPSS or similar statistical package required; interest in community-based research and community-based/service learning pedagogy preferred. Work is part-time and can be done from home office. Research Assistant would report to Executive Director and would be required to attend some meetings. Stipend available of $4,000 payable over the course of the Fall 2004 and Spring 2005 semesters.
