| Wednesday, July 28, 2004 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Presented by DC Agenda and moderated by the Council of Latino Agencies
The third community forum entitled "Immigrant Women Speak about their Health," will be held on Wednesday, July 28 from 6-8 pm at the Josephine Butler Parks Center, 2437 15th Street NW. Panelists include immigrant women who are health educators and advocates within the Vietnamese, Latino, Chinese, Ethiopian and African refugee communities in the District. Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Vietnamese, Spanish, Cantonese, Amharic and French. Though health disparities have been of local and national concern for years, much more needs to be known about immigrant communities' health status, access to care, and perspectives on health. This forum provides an opportunity for immigrant women themselves to describe the multiple factors that affect the health of women and girls within their communities in the District, and to offer solutions to problems. After we hear the panelists' stories, we will ask the audience to participate in small group discussions about the Priorities, Barriers and Recommendations they would make on these issues. We ultimately hope to build a citywide coalition to advocate for improved policies and programs for women and girls in the District. Future Forums: September's forum is on employment issues and October's forum will focus on violence. For More Information: Contact Heather McClure, CLA's Director of Research and Policy at (202) 328-9451 or hmcclure@consejo.org. | ||||||
