Woodstock Forum: Educating DC Children

Date: May 10, 2005
Location: Washington Jesuit Academy 900 Varnum Street NE
Time: 6:30-9pm
Cost: Free

Almost unnoticed in the media coverage of elementary and secondary education in the District of Columbia is the variety of substantial initiatives being taken by traditional and innovative educational institutions in creating schooling for the children of D.C. Public, parochial, private and charter schools are in the process of some major renewal efforts. New leaders and teachers are emerging and they are tapping into different public and private sources of funding while developing a variety of approaches to education. This Woodstock forum will explore the challenges and possibilities for what we hope might be a new springtime for D.C.'s children in their schools.

The Woodstock Theological Center is an independent nonprofit institute at Georgetown University that engages in theological and ethical reflection on topics of social, economic, business, scientific, cultural, religious, and political importance. The Center does research, conducts conferences and seminars, and publishes books and articles. Drawing on the Roman Catholic tradition, the Woodstock Center is ecumenically open, multi-disciplinary, and collaborative with, among others, the business community, government, religious groups, universities, other research centers, and the media. The Woodstock Center aims to be attentive to Scripture's concern for the poor and the powerless. Its work is a particular instance of the contemporary mission of the Society of Jesus: the service of faith through the promotion of justice. The Center is financed by individual donations, foundation grants, and contributions from the Society of Jesus.
