Help young people make a difference in their communities:
Mix It Up Grants Program: The Southern
Poverty Law Center and the Study Circles Research
Center are offering $500 grants to support
youth-directed projects that challenge and cross
social boundaries in their schools and communities.
Applications accepted on an ongoing basis.
YSA Youth Venture Program: Youth Service
America and Youth Venture, Inc. have teamed up to
help young people (ages 12-20) start sustainable
Ventures (clubs, organizations or businesses) that
benefit their communities. Seed grants of up to
$1000 are available, as well as access to YSA and
Youth Venture's network of resources and support.
The deadline for applications is December 18.
Pay It Forward
Mini-Grants: The Pay It Foward
Foundaton offers grants up to $500 for one-time
service projects performed by youth for their
school, neighborhood or community, that will in turn
lead to others performing similar services and cause
the benefit to multiply exponentially. The next
application deadline is January 15. |

Event: Unveiling of "Village in the City" Mount Pleasant Heritage Trail When: Saturday, December 9, ceremony at 11:30am-12:30pm, self-guided stroll 1:00-4:00pm Where: Lamont Park, Lamont and 17th Sts NW "Village in the City," a trail tracing the lively history of the Mount Pleasant neighborhood, will be officially opened on December 9 with a ceremony featuring mayor-elect Adrian Fenty and Council Member Jim Graham. In the afternoon, food, drinks and discounts will be available from businesses along the trail. The event is free and open to the public. |

Event: "Hepatitis C, HIV, and African Americans" When: Thursday, December 14, 1:00-2:30pm Where: Suite 500, 1156 15th Street NW (corner of 15th and M streets, close to McPherson Sq metro stop) A presentation by the DC Care Consortium on the rate of hepatitis C among African Americans and the reasons for racial and ethnic disparities in treatment. The deadline for the Alston/Bannerman Fellowship Program's Activists of Color Award is coming up on December 15. The award of $25,000 is intended to allow activists of color who have organized their communities in the pursuit of social, economic, racial and environmental justice to take sabbaticals for reflection and renewal. |

Event: Grants.gov workshop When: Monday, December 18, 8:30am-12:00pm Where: Towson University Student Union, Chesapeake Room, 8000 York Road, Towson, MD The Maryland Governor's Grants Office is holding a free workshop on the Grants.gov registration process, including presentations on Duns number management, IRS validation, CCR registration and of the online registration process itself. To register, send an email to MDGrantsOffice@gov.state.md.us with "December 18 registration" as the subject and include your name, title, organization, full business address, business phone and email address.
The workshop will also be broadcast over the web on the Maryland Governor's Grants Office website. Log on promptly at 9:00am, as only the first 200 viewers will be allowed access. Webcast viewers can email, fax or call in with questions during the workshop.

available at the same website at 2:00pm. |

When: Saturday, April 28, 2007 Where: American University, Mary Graydon Center Mark your calendars for the CoRAL Network's annual conference on community-driven research. The 2007 conference will be held on Saturday, April 28 at American University's Mary Graydon Center. Online registration will be available on the CoRAL Network website in early January. Faculty, students and community members are all welcome to submit papers, posters and presentations related to the theme of "Transforming DC Through Community-Based Learning and Research."
