Last Tuesday, Bill 16-734, the "Library Transformation Act of 2006", which would have abandoned the current central library site--the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library--in favor of developing the old Convention Center, was tabled by the DC Council Committee on Education, Libraries and Recreation. Thus the MLK building will in all likelihood remain; however, the case still needs to be made for its renovation... | ||||||

Event: Unveiling of "Village in the City" Mount Pleasant Heritage Trail When: Saturday, December 9, ceremony at 11:30am-12:30pm, self-guided stroll 1:00-4:00pm Where: Lamont Park, Lamont and 17th Sts NW "Village in the City," a trail tracing the lively history of the Mount Pleasant neighborhood, will be officially opened on December 9 with a ceremony featuring mayor-elect Adrian Fenty and Council Member Jim Graham. In the afternoon, food, drinks and discounts will be available from businesses along the trail. The event is free and open to the public. | ||||||

Pre-K Incentive Program Workshop: The Department of Human Services Early Care and Education Administration is providing a workshop on eligibility, requirements and types of support for the Pre-K Incentive Program. The workshop will be held on Thursday, November 30, 9:30am-12:30pm, at Matthew Memorial Church, 2616 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE (Anacostia metro station, green line). The Staples Foundation for Learning supports programs that work to help youth, particularly disadvantaged youth, access education and vocational training. The next deadline for applications is December 15. Event: CoRAL Network 2007 Conference
When: Saturday, April 28, 2007 Where: American University, Mary Graydon Center Mark your calendars for the CoRAL Network's annual conference on community-driven research. The 2007 conference will be held on Saturday, April 28 at American University's Mary Graydon Center. Online registration will be available on the CoRAL Network website in early January. Faculty, students and community members are all welcome to submit papers, posters and presentations related to the theme of "Transforming DC Through Community-Based Learning and Research."
