The Committee of 100 on the Federal City encourages DC residents to contact Councilmembers and attend the hearing to show opposition for the bill, as the Convention Center site is inadequate for the demands of a central library. | ||||||

Event: Fundraising Reception for "Breaking the Chain" Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program When: Wednesday, November 29, 6:00-9:00pm Where: Skyclub, 700 Water St. SW Capitol Educational Support, Inc., a non-profit organization providing tutoring and mentoring programs for public school students, has received a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to start a mentoring program for children of incarcerated parents. A celebratory and fundraising reception will be held next Wednesday including a silent auction and a live art installation. | ||||||

DC Action for Children is now accepting nominations for their Public Service Award honoring those in the private, government and nonprofit sectors who work to improve the opportunities, environment and care of DC children. The award will be presented at the 2nd Annual Capital Champions for Children Awards Luncheon Benefit on Friday, February 16, 2007. The deadline for nominations is December 1. | ||||||

Barnes and Noble offers funding for nonprofits focusing on literacy, the arts or K-12 education. Programs undertaken with this funding must serve a community where a B&N store is located and must have an in-store component. Both national and local grants are available. More information Kaiser Permanente Cares for Communities provides grants to nonprofits working to improve healthcare provision to vulnerable populations through delivery, research, education and public policy, with a focus on community involvement and support. PNC Grow Up Great: The PNC Foundation is funding programs that prepare children, particularly from underserved communities, for school through social and emotional development programs and arts and culture programs for Pre-K children, as well as training programs for Pre-K teachers. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced that early registration for 2007 HUD grants is now open. They also provide resources on how finding and applying for their grants. | ||||||

The 2007 conference will be held on Saturday, April 28 at American University's Mary Graydon Center. Online registration will be available on the CoRAL Network website in early January. Faculty, students and community members are all welcome to submit papers, posters and presentations related to the theme of "Transforming DC Through Community-Based Learning and Research."
