Addressing Collegiate Alcohol & Drug Issues
Event: Inaugural Student Research Award Competition

The competition is open to any undergraduate or graduate student at a member institution of The Network (search the online "Members" database at http://www.thenetwork.ws to ascertain institutional membership and/or to seek free membership). The Network will provide one award of up to $5,000 for original student research that is consistent with the organization's mission to address alcohol/other drug abuse and violence prevention in higher education.

The Inaugural Student Research Award Competition begun in 1987 by the U.S. Department of Education, the Network is a voluntary membership organization whose member institutions agree to adhere to a set of standards aimed at reducing alcohol and other drug problems at colleges and universities.

Assistant Director of Social Services

The Assistant Director of Social Services reports to the Director of Social Services and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Social Services Department.

Social Services

Licensed social workers and family support workers help families and individuals overcome crises and chronic problems through counseling, parenting, emergency assistance, housing and day care assistance, and other services. Child abuse and neglect and domestic violence are addressed or prevented; new housing is obtained or evictions are avoided; victims of HIV/AIDS receive housing assistance and counseling; people are lead to education, training and job opportunities, gaining new hope in a caring and supportive environment.

Qualifications

? MSW degree and D.C. social work license
? At least four years experience in providing social services including experience in managing programs and supervising staff
? Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Access, and Excel
? Excellent management, communication and interpersonal skills
? Well organized and strong ability to create and maintain a well functioning, efficient and effective operating department
? Strong ability to work in a team and collaboratively with other individuals and organizations
? Initiative and responsibility in carrying out position functions in a professional and effective manner

Community-Based Learning/Peace Studies

Where: Georgetown University Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching and Service

Salary: $28k - $32k with full benefits

The Community-Based Learning/Program on Justice and Peace Coordinator works closely with the Center for Social Justice (CSJ) faculty and staff to integrate community-based learning (CBL) into the programs and opportunities offered by the CSJ. The person is responsible for administering the ?Community-Based Learning Credit? program, advising student organizations, supporting community-university partnerships, assisting with grants development and administration, and participating in the evaluation of existing programs (85% of the job). In addition, the person works closely with the Director of the Program on Justice and Peace to handle administrative duties (e.g., budget, web, scheduling, etc.) and to inform undergraduates about the program (15% of the job).

The Center?s mission is, ?In order to advance justice and the common good, the Center promotes and integrates community-based research, teaching and service by collaborating with diverse partners and communities.?

Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree. 2-3 years university service program management and community-based learning program experience. Interest and experience in working with faculty and in development of CBL courses. Interest and experience in justice and peace studies.
