"Grant Seeking Basics" Training Opportunity
Event: An Orientation to the Funding Research Process

The Foundation Center offers a basic orientation to the funding research process with its Grantseeking Basics training. This session, designed for beginners, provides instruction in foundation research and identification of potential funders and is followed by a tour of the library.

Founded in 1956, the Center is the nation's leading authority on philanthropy and is dedicated to serving grantseekers, grantmakers, researchers, policymakers, the media, and the general public.

The Foundation Center's mission is to strengthen the nonprofit sector by advancing knowledge about U.S. philanthropy.

To achieve the mission, they:

  • Conduct and facilitate research on trends in the field
  • Provide education and training on the grantseeking process
  • Ensure public access to information and services through our Web site, print and electronic publications, five library/learning centers, and a national network of Cooperating Collections

Peace in the Streets
Event: Annual Peace Ride 2005

This affair proclaims a day of PEACE IN THE STREETS of Ward 7, and throughout our nation's Capitol, it embraces the celebration of cultures, races, religions, genders, political parties, wards, etc., uniting as one organized effort. In addition, weapons will be surrendered under the guidelines of the District's weapons amnesty policy signaling an arrest to the criminal activity that plague our neighborhoods and communities.

From the inception of PEACE IN THE STREETS, they start the day with their Peace Bike rides. Supporters of Peace ride travel from the church to Benning Road NE, down Historic H Street, NE, through China town to Freedom Plaza at 13th and Pennsylvania Ave, NW. At Freedom Plaza there will be a small Peace Rally. At the conclusion, of the Rally people ride back to the church to be greeted with a Peace Parade. Other activities on that day will include a health fair; job fair, amusements/games for the children, free food and beverages, guest speakers, music and much more.

Join supporters as they promote Peace in the Streets of Washington, DC. You can join in by participating in their bike ride or spending June 11th at the Peace in the Streets event.

Senior Volunteer Opportunites
Sponsored by: Family and Child Services of Washington, DC Inc. and the District's Office on Aging

Senior Works is a stipend volunteer program that provides opportunities for persons of retirement age by reintroducing themn into the workforce. To date, over one hundred Senior Volunteers have been placed in over forty volunteer sites throughout the District of Columbia.

The perfect opportunity for the skilled retiree to re- enter the workforce. Volunteers age 55 and over are placed at various government, private and non-profit sites for a period of ninety days, with the hope that they will subsequently be hired as full-time, permanent employees.
