Faculty are the sustainable entity in academe. They are what holds projects, programs, and initiatives in place after the students have left. Many university faculty are supportive of community-based learning and research initiatives, but often find the additional time commitment, expense and logistical supervision to be barriers to incorporating creative community-based learning and research components in their teaching. Whether you have many years under your belt as a proponent of service/community-learning intiatives or whether you are just beginning to look into incorporating CBR in your pedagogy, the Network provides many opportunities for faculty and researchers to pursue collaborative projects with community members either independently or with a class. Browse this section and our Resources section to get more ideas of projects that you can get started in your community. In addition to the available materials and references, the Network has an online Project Finder application which maintains a database of community and university members that are interested in conducting or are currently conducting research in the Washington, DC area. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We would be glad to help you get started!
