Community-Driven Research in the National Capital Region
"Transforming DC through Community Based Learning and Research"
Social Capital- "the glue that holds communities together"- is a crucial, though imperfectly understood, component of community development. Service-learning pedagogy and community-based research methodologies offer appropriate techniques for assessing social capital and promoting civic engagement and social justice.
This year's confernece theme of "Transforming DC through Community Based Learning and Research" will highlight recent research and program innovations that foster the networks (cohesiveness among organizations and groups) and norms (shared values, beliefs, and trust relationships) that contribute to social capital accumulation within greater Washington's vibrant and diverse communities.
The 2006 conference will feature panel sessions, papers, poster presentations and workshops on a range of topics, including:
